Finding His Voice

Yesterday morning, Ali was doing some early reading and sent me an email with the sweetest quote from poet Elizabeth Bishop. It made her think of Oliver and after I read it, I thought it would be perfect to go with this video of Ollie chatting away to himself...

"At my house as I write there is a four-month-old baby who has just discovered his voice; not his crying voice, but his speaking, singing or poetry-voice, and he devotes stretches of the day to trying it out. He can produce long trills, loud or soft, and repeated bird-like cries, obviously with pleasure"

Ollie's been spending some rounds of awake time in the snazzy jungle swing that Darby passed along. It has a nice, slow rocking pace, plays soft rain-forest-y tunes that I actually don't mind and find soothing myself, and has jungle animals that rotate around while large green leaves move up and down. I tell ya - the stuff babies get to hang out in these days is amazing.

As my dad would say - He's a keeper.

Mountain Weekend (for our NINTH anniversary!)

Our generous friends let us borrow their condo on Lake Dillon for the weekend of our anniversary. There were lots of lazy breakfasts, time playing with Oliver and a few walks out and about enjoying the gorgeous scenery.

This was the view from our condo. Pretty spectacular.

We drove down to historic little Gorgetown for lunch and to check out the Horseshoe Market.
There are a bunch of charming buildings and churches and ice cream shops scattered around. Isaac brought me Mocha Almond Fudge. Yum.

Ollie behaved himself quite nicely at lunch. He was cool as a cucumber.

A view of the Eisenhower Tunnel on the way back to Denver. It's one of the highest vehicular tunnels in the world at 11,158 feet and the highest point on the interstate highway system. We like Ike! (Both of them)

Happy 4 Months Ollie!

Grandma Epperson gave us the Raggedy Andy doll (and a new one just for Ollie too) that Isaac used to play with when he was a little guy. It is so well loved and worn. It's precious.

It's all about sucking on the fingers these days. The stuffed moose from Joycie and Mike is also a good choice.

Oliver smiles a lot, coos and is starting to giggle. Can I catch any of this on camera? Nope. Whenever I whip it out, he gets quiet and looks at his fingers or stares at the camera instead. One of these days I will do it. He can't evade me forever - silly boy.

Ollie & Ike's Dinner Conversation

A Potpourri of Pictures

Isaac's second cousin Ryleigh - she's a real baby whisperer

Oliver's second cousin Nicole (Ryleigh's mom)

We happened across this barbershop while strolling in Denver - Oliver is already an entrepreneur.  Who knew?

His profile looks just like those early ultrasound pictures
